Forty years ago, Jennifer and George Forbeck faced an unimaginable tragedy—the loss of their son, William Guy “Billy” Forbeck. In the words of the late George Forbeck, “A thousand words never talk about a tragedy enough, but this Foundation represents progress for all children and adults.” Billy may have only lived 11 years but his spirit lives on through the transformative work of the Forbeck Foundation. Our unwavering mission is to fund and convene cancer’s leading thinkers together in one room to foster progress in the fight against cancer.
2025 will mark the Foundation’s 40th Anniversary. While it represents 40 years without Billy Guy, it also signifies four decades of scientific advancement inspired by his memory. We continue to expand our impact every day in our unique way.
- In 2025, we will host 15 scientific meetings due to the demand from the cancer research community.
- We now award an average of 20 Forbeck Scholars a year to further support the future of cancer research.
- We celebrate another past participant receiving a Nobel Prize, marking our fifth to date.
- In a recent survey of past participants we are proud to report countless clinical trials, papers and collaborations resulting from Forbeck Forums and Scholar Retreats.
- We are collaborating with Curing Kids Cancer on a series of meetings focused on issues faced by pediatric cancer survivors.
Together, we can honor Billy’s legacy and foster meaningful change in the lives of those affected by cancer. By giving financially, you help us advance groundbreaking research, support innovative programs, and provide hope to families facing unimaginable challenges. Your individual support is critical in sustaining our work.
This year is not only momentous due to the record number of scientific programs, there will also be more awareness initiatives and fundraising events. Please stay connected through our website; wgfrf.org/40th, email updates, and social media for the latest news.
Bestwishes for happy holidays.
